Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start before treatment begins?
Yes, pre-habilitation before treatment is one of our core focus areas. Exercise before treatment may help improve strength, resilience, confidence and treatment tolerance.
Where are sessions held?
Exercise Oncology Collective services are currently delivered from Align Functional Fitness in Richmond, Nelson. The environment is designed to provide a calm, supportive, and coach-led setting.
What is Exercise Oncology?
Exercise oncology is the application of evidence-based exercise to support individuals before, during and after cancer treatment.
Exercise is tailored to treatment stage, symptoms, function and individual goals.
Is this Personal Training?
Not in the traditional sense. The Exercise Oncology Collective provides structure, supportive evidence based exercise support designed specifically for individuals navigating the cancer journey.
Do you work with people during treatment?
Some individuals may continue appropriate modified exercise support during treatment depending on medical status, treatment type, symptoms, and clinical guidance.
Do I need to have exercised before?
Not at all.
Many individuals we support are completely new to exercise, re-building confidence or returning to movement after treatment.
What happens after rehabilitation ends?
This is one of the largest gaps in the cancer care continuum. The Exercise Oncology collective focuses heavily on helping individuals transition safely back into exercise, rebuild confidence and develop long-term movement habits.
How much do sessions cost?
All new clients begin with a 60-minute initial consultation and assessment ($150).
Ongoing exercise support sessions are available in 30-minute sessions ($60).
Support is individualised based on treatment stage, goals, symptoms, and confidence with movement.
